As one may assume given that I haven't been counting the days until its conclusion, the walking challenge has been great. I'm not sure I've trimmed and toned, but I do feel more sprightly in the morning. I've been taking strolls over lunch and even before work, which was a rare occurrence before. Getting out more also means stumbling upon little experiences that one wouldn't get sitting around the house. For example, I parked a good nine blocks away from this writing meetup last week so I could get more steps in. As I was taking a shortcut by the capitol, an orchestra started up and the sounds of Tchaikovsky drifted my way.
Although the challenge may officially be over, walking is one daily activity I hope to sustain. I'm already dreading the return of the long Wisconsin winter. Every year around January I swear to move somewhere warmer, but every spring finds me still here. It's not even the snow and cold that keeps me from walking outside; it's the ice that turns every route into a treacherous passage.
Let's hope for a milder winter this year. Or for me to get some ice cleats.
